Is your cat over 8 years of age?
Did you know that cats are amazing at hiding signs of pain or illness?
Elderly cats are particularly good at hiding their discomfort
These days our cats are living longer. Just like people, older cats are more likely to start getting health issues including arthritis, dental disease, thyroid problems, high blood pressure and more.
One of the main differences between us and our pets is that they can hide the early signs of these problems, often carrying on as normal until the condition is fairly well advanced.
Barry Veterinary Centre is pleased to offer Senior Cat Clinics specifically for cats aged 8 years and over. The clinics are designed to pick up early signs of “old age” conditions such as:
- Diabetes.
- Liver and kidney problems.
- Hyperthyroidism.
- High blood pressure.
This enables us to help you with treatment or management much sooner, leading to a happier and longer life for your cat.
The clinic includes:
- A nurse consultation.
- A blood test.
- A urine test.
- Eye examination.
- Blood pressure measurement.
If we are concerned with any of our findings, we will refer you and your pet to one of our veterinary surgeons for a consultation. The vet will carry out a further assessment based on the test results and discuss the treatment options available for your pet.
The vet consultation and any medication, procedures or food prescribed will be chargeable separately.
To book an appointment for your elderly friend please call us and we will be happy to answer any other questions you have.
